Magical Trees - Trevenant BREAK for Portland

Without Hex Maniac in the format, Trevenant BREAK can lock the opponent out of items without any escape route. Trevenant has been a strong Pokemon since its release and with the combination of Enhanced Hammers, Rescue Scarfs, and Counter Catchers in modern Trevenant decks the deck can out resource any other deck. In addition, the new Tapu Lele promo allows the deck's win condition to be triggered many turns sooner and gives the deck an out to knocking out Pokemon that would otherwise sweep your board.

The List

There isn't much too talk about with the list. It is very streamlined, without many techs. If you are worried about the Garbodor matchup you can tech a Xerosic to stop Garbotoxin; however this list is meant to be as consistent as possible.

Without Xerosic this match up is dependent on the opponent. If your opponent is playing the Dimension Valley build you can take a win by playing limited items as most of their choices for attackers are not very effective against Trevenant. If your opponent is playing the Drampa-GX build then a turn one tool on Garbotoxin Garbodor will likely be a loss for you as Righteous Beating and Berserk are both very strong against Trevenant. If your opponent misses the turn one tool you have a huge edge. You need the turn one item lock and can not give the opponent an opening to break the lock otherwise the opponent will likely be able to put a tool down and swing the matchup in their favor.

Buzzwole/Lycanroc-GX

This matchup is heavily favored. Tree Slam will be a much stronger attack and Tapu Lele Promo allows you to stop a fully powered up Buzzwole-GX. The opponent simply does not have many ways to deal with a Trevenant BREAK without cards like Beast Ring.

Zoroark-GX

To beat Zoroark-GX you just keep sending up Trevenant until one survives. You run your opponent out of resources with a combination of Counter Catcher and Enhanced Hammer then most games will end with a six prize turn with Tapu Lele promo.
